In marking the entries I have given reduced scores to partial solutions. As it turns out, the "rock-breakers" weren't required though perhaps give a certain insight into the motivations of the entrants:-
Chris Grimmett joined "because I wanted to descend to previously unthought of depths". Well Chris I guess you've probably achieved this with honours - and tried hard to drag the rest of the Club down with you. Steve Wray joined "because I'm a complete moron who didn't know any better". Well Steve, you have stuck with us so I guess it suits you. Martin Hatton "because of the sun, sand, sea, sex and speleology". Presumably Martin has an aversion to these and wanted to avoid them! Simon and Dinah joined because "they were young and foolish and didn't know any better". Perhaps it was them who recruited Steve Wray! Graham Christian simply joined "because I would not have to pay them so much money" (hut fees). Finally Eric Downer joined "because my therapist said I would look normal by comparison".
If the above motivations truly represent a typical cross-section, then perhaps the 1996 committee might wish to consider the image the club portrays. Anyway thanks to all those who took the time and trouble to enter. Prizes will be despatched in due course.
