Enclosed with this edition of Pelobates are details of the club's 30th anniversary celebrations. To mark the event, a weekend at Baskerville Hall Hotel in Hay-on-Wye has been organised, culminating in a 5 course dinner on Saturday 24 September. It is expected that many club members, both past and present, will attend.

This event will provide members with an ideal opportunity to reminiss about the good old days: the formation of the club in 1964 from Croydon YHA and various scout groups; the original members including Ron Smith, Colin Grange, Dick Ockenden, Bob Reader, Brian 'Soaps' Serff, Robin Richards and soon afterwards Alan Cartwright, 'Cubby' Randell, Eric Duggan and the current chairman Paul Selby; the early trips to local mines and the more adventureous expeditions to Mendip, driving down in Snow Drop and camping on Burrington Coombe; the later excursions to Wales, initially staying in the Old Darren Sunday School or camping on the Llangattock escarpment, then in club cottages at Pen Fathor Isaf, Selwyn's Barn, and eventually Godre Pentre; the making of the film "Going Down in the World"; the expeditions to Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium and France; and the discovery of Poll Dearg and Ogof Igam Ogam.

In fact, the perfect opportunity not to go caving!
